THE SMALL BUSINESS GUIDE
What is offshore
outsourcing?
Understand the costs, roles and responsibilities before you hire overseas.
Offshore outsourcing means engaging an external person or company in another country to carry out work for your business. It can mean handing over a business process or working with an overseas professional who follows your team’s daily direction. The right arrangement depends on what you want to delegate—and what you want to keep managing.
Choose a clear responsibility.
Agree who manages delivery.
Give your person a strong start.
THE MODEL
Outsourcing, offshoring and remote staffing: what’s the difference?
Outsourcing describes who performs the work: an external provider. Offshoring describes where the work happens: another country. A company can outsource locally, or operate its own overseas team without outsourcing.
Remote staffing describes a way to add people who work outside your office. Those people may be in your country or overseas. A virtual assistant is a type of remote role; it is not a separate hiring model.
Outsource a process
You agree a scope, service standards and reporting with a provider that manages delivery.
Example: A provider runs a defined customer-support queue and handles its staffing.
Build your remote team
You select a professional and lead their daily work, with recruiting and support from a staffing partner.
Example: An appointment setter works in your CRM, follows your process and reports to your manager.
Where Boogie fits: We recruit and screen remote professionals in the Philippines and South America, coordinate interviews and onboarding, and stay involved through client and talent support. You choose your person, provide business-specific training and lead the daily work. See how hiring with Boogie works.
THE WORK
What can a small business outsource offshore?
Start with recurring work that can be explained, completed remotely and reviewed. The role should connect to a real bottleneck in your business.
Lead follow-up and appointment setting ↗
Respond to inquiries, qualify interest, book appointments and keep CRM notes clear. Your team supplies the approved lead sources, offer, qualification rules and calling process.
Administration and coordination ↗
Manage calendars, organize records, follow up on documents and keep routine tasks moving. Define approval limits and the issues that need your attention.
Customer support ↗
Handle common email, chat or phone questions using your knowledge base. Set response expectations and a clear escalation route for complaints or exceptions.
Bookkeeping support ↗
Organize transactions, invoices and routine reconciliations within an agreed scope. Keep financial approvals and specialist accounting decisions with the appropriate owner.
Marketing and CRM support ↗
Coordinate content, update campaigns and maintain records or workflows. Specify the tools, review process and level of experience the work requires.
A contractor’s first hire: an example
If estimate requests go unanswered while your team is on site, a remote appointment setter could follow up, confirm the service area and schedule estimates. Agree what counts as a qualified appointment and how the salesperson returns feedback. This is an illustrative workflow, not a promised result.

How much does offshore outsourcing cost?
There is no single offshore rate. Skills, experience, working hours, responsibility and the service model all affect the quote. Compare the total cost of getting the work done, including the time you spend managing it.
A client service starting price, not a candidate wage or a rate for every role. See current pricing and what is included.
Build a complete budget
- Staffing: quoted rate × agreed billable hours.
- Tools: required software, phone systems and role-specific access.
- Inputs: lead sources or advertising, when the role needs them.
- Your time: initial training, feedback and ongoing management.
- Other charges: any fees and terms stated in your agreement.
Illustration: 80 agreed hours at $8/hour would equal $640 in staffing charges. This calculation is not a quote or a minimum-hours policy; tools, separate charges and management time are additional.
Boogie’s published service includes recruitment and screening, onboarding coordination and ongoing support. Your business provides its software, lead sources, business training and agreed tools. Confirm your rate, scope, billable hours, notice terms and any separate costs before starting.

Benefits and risks of offshore outsourcing
Hiring overseas can widen your candidate pool, make a role fit your budget and support the hours you need. Those benefits depend on the person, the brief and how the working relationship is managed.
| Potential benefit | What to check |
|---|---|
| More affordable support | Compare total costs and required experience, not only the hourly rate. |
| A broader talent pool | Assess candidates against actual tasks, communication needs and tool knowledge. |
| Coverage for your business hours | Confirm the candidate’s schedule and the process for absences and handoffs. |
| More time for your core work | Give the role a clear owner, boundaries and a repeatable review process. |
Common problems—and how to prepare
- Unclear expectations: document examples of good work and what needs approval.
- Communication gaps: choose a shared channel, overlap hours and an escalation contact.
- Access and continuity issues: grant only the access needed and agree a backup process.
- A mismatch: interview for the work and discuss support, replacement and notice terms before hiring.
A remote hire still needs context, feedback and accountability. Geography alone does not guarantee lower costs, higher quality or better retention.
THE DECISION
Is offshore outsourcing right for your business?
You may be ready when…
- The work repeats and can be done remotely.
- You can describe what good work looks like.
- There is a budget and someone to guide the hire.
- Your tools support clear handoffs and review.
Prepare the role first when…
- The responsibilities change every day.
- You need someone physically on site.
- No one can provide training or feedback.
- The role combines too many unrelated specialties.
If you want an external team to take full ownership of a function, ask about a managed-service arrangement. If you want a person working within your process, a supported staffing model may be the closer fit. Compare agency support with direct hiring.

Questions worth asking before you hire
Can an offshore professional work U.S. business hours?
That depends on the role and candidate. Specify your time zone, working days and coverage requirements during recruitment. Confirm the agreed schedule before the start date.
Can I start with one person or part-time support?
Boogie supports one-person and team hiring, including part-time arrangements. Discuss the workload and confirm the minimum engagement, billing period and availability in your quote.
Who trains and manages the person?
With Boogie’s staffing model, your business provides its procedures, daily priorities, training and feedback. Boogie handles recruitment and onboarding coordination and stays involved through support and work reviews.
Is offshore outsourcing the same as hiring a freelancer?
A freelancer can be overseas, but location does not define the relationship. Compare how candidates are selected, who manages the work, whether support continues after hiring and what the agreement covers.
What should I check if the fit is not right?
Ask how concerns are raised, who helps resolve them and what replacement, billing, cancellation and notice terms apply. Agree those terms before the engagement starts.
